The recently announced Trials of Bahamut have got me more than fired up to try it out! If anyone has ever been to an escape room, they would know that there is nothing more entertaining than spending a good time with a gaggle of friends to conquer a boss, solve mind-bending puzzles, or create a world from a collective imagination.
For a friend’s bachelor party (I know, we’re nerds), we decided on an escape room in downtown Houston. Our challenge was to escape the torture chamber of a crazed serial killer with a penchant for mind games, i. e. Saw. Going into the room handcuffed, the countdown began and I and seven of my friends immediately started searching for the keys to the cuffs, all the while taking in any markings and clues that seemed to provide a path to the exit. Dead-ends were common and nothing was more hilarious than calling each other out for minor errors that we couldn’t help but exaggerate with comments like “Well s**t, why don’t you just blow our brains out now and save us the last 58 minutes.” Cryptic messages in a diary, blood-stained sequences, and well-hidden omissions were a welcoming drink to sate our thirst for victory. We stumbled, we laughed, we yelled, and in the end, we escaped with the fastest time among all the other teams who tried. That was a great time and an example of the fun to be offered by escape rooms.
For that reason, I’m even more elated to hear that Square Enix and SCRAP have teamed up to offer a Final Fantasy themed escape room.
The idea the Trials Of Bahamut escape room is that you and your partners are heroes in a world that is about to be destroyed by the dragon, Bahamut. Your quest is to stop Bahamut’s resurrection by solving in-game puzzles, brain-teasers, and riddles, and save the world.
Currently, 8 cities in the US have been announced to host the Final Fantasy escape room experience:
- Los Angeles
- San Francisco
- New York
As I said before, escape rooms are a great time, so if you have any time to check them out, I strongly recommend them.
