Today, Final Fantasy XIV showed off an extended trailer for its upcoming major expansion Stormblood. While the beginning should be very similar to anyone who saw it initially, the extra three minutes near the end are exactly what fans of the game and FFXI have been waiting for. Official confirmation that the Samurai Job is finally on its way to the game.
Samurai was one of the most entertaining classes in the previous MMO outing for Final Fantasy as it focused more on delivering lots of different TP moves while building the resource needed for these techniques extremely fast. Initially conceived of as tanks in the previous game, FFXIV is looking to expand their role it seems by focusing more on a Samurai’s extreme speed and finesse rather than brute strength.
Luckily, the job will be added as a melee DPS and wield the signature Katana the job is known for. Further, its starting level will be 50 which is a bit higher than the previous three jobs that were added during the Heavensward expansion which could mean a far higher level cap is being implemented for Stormblood. As far as battle design, the devs also revealed that you can master three arts of Sen as well as some aspects of the Iai sword style. The Iai style is basically what you see in anime where the character quickly draws and sheathes their katana in a blink of an eye. They also mention being able to store energy in your katana to unleash special attacks which could mean there is an energy charge mechanic to the job which is something we haven’t seen in FFXIV yet.
The Samurai job and the Stormblood expansion aren’t expected until June 20th but that isn’t stopping me from jumping on the hype train. Samurai 4.0, here I come!
