With E3 2017 in full blast, press releases are flying around like bats and new trailers continue to emerge. For Kingdom Hearts III, any new information that is released is still shocking since the game has been “in development” for almost as long as Final Fantasy XV. To be fair, most people expected development began right after KH II but that probably wasn’t the case. Yesterday, June 10th, Square released a brand new trailer that showcases even more of the game that should be gracing our Xbox Ones and PS4s soon.
As you may have noticed in the trailer, there is a mix of both old and new with familiar faces such as Pete and Maleficent making a comeback if just to confuse the king of hell, Hades. The combat matches what we’ve seen from previous trailers, however, the enemies do appear to be taken from the previous games. This isn’t a bad thing as Heartless and Nobodies wouldn’t stop existing just because a new game was released.
What was most surprising however happened at the 1:55 mark of the trailer. As the party speaks with Ansem (or whoever he is this time), the silver-haired leader of Organization XIII and he relays a few sentences regarding a certain playable character from KH II.
“How do you expect to bring Roxas back when he should have never existed in the first place? There is only one way to accomplish it… Sora, are you finally going to call upon the darkness?”
If that statement alone doesn’t get you excited for Kingdom Hearts III and its story, then you may need to go back and replay the first two main titles. Or you know… watch it all on Youtube.
As for any more information being released at E3 2017 for this game, it looks like we won’t be getting much. Instead, Square is urging everyone to check out Disney’s D23 Expo on July 15th, 2017. There, they promise the unveiling of a brand new world and yet another trailer. Hopefully, they will also include an official launch time slot as well since it’s been awhile.
