Gigantic is aiming to take its place next to Dota 2 and LOL in the MOBA scene and has been using its time wisely towards that end. In recent months, they have partnered with Microsoft to help distribute their game and sustain livelihood.
As a result, Motiga (more than likely VIA Microsoft) has decreed that you must have a “… valid email address and an active Xbox account.” to continue participating in the Closed Beta Test. Whereas before the only thing needed was the beta key and an account created on their site.
CBT phase 2 for Gigantic will be a 24/7 test for the game and will soon become stream-able by authorized Gigantic Community mods first shortly followed by official broadcasters. This move is unsurprising but for anyone that played in the first CBT of what appears to be an amazing game, the new mandatory Microsoft account may be a bit off putting.
There’s no exact release date for Xbox One or Windows 10 yet but from what I can gather, a Steam release is far less likely which is unfortunate for both Motiga and the gamers holding their breath for a chance to play.
UPDATE: @GoGigantic reached out to us earlier about this article with a tweet stating their point of view.
@BombchuGuyz Since you'll only have 1 acc. managed for both platforms (and to allow cross-platform play) that's why an XBL acc is required
