I may be a former player but nothing gets me as amped as a brand new trailer for FFXIV’s content updates. This one in particular had a special surprise right at the end that almost made me re-sub just to experience it. Soul Surrender is the latest in the group and sports some very interesting additions that the game has been lacking for quite some time.
From the trailer alone, you can see the usual new end game content, Alexander the creator, which brings the Alexander raid to a close. The bosses are always a test of patience and nerves and these look to be just as epic as the previous end game finales. In addition, some minor QoL changes in the form of apartments finally arrive. During my time playing, the cost of getting your own house was rather steep however this looks to offer a more affordable option for people who want their own place in Eorzea.
From there, we got a look at a really well designed dungeon in Xelphatol and of course a new Hard Mode dungeon. But the best, as I mentioned before, was what Soul Surrender shows off right at the end of the trailer.
The original FFXIV and Reborn / Heavensward both featured these adventurers of light who have been haunting the story waiting to intervene. It seems it’s finally time to take them on and prove who the real bearer of the light actually is. They don’t seem to want to go down without a fight as they begin summoning something that I’m sure will test adventurer’s spirit as they dive into this brand new story.
FFXIV’s Patch 3.4 – Soul Surrender will go live next Tuesday September 27th with the usual maintenance just before it. There’s still a lot of room for growth and even though I no longer play, I love seeing what Yoshi P. is capable of bringing to a game that is on its way to being the very best in its genre.
