After the recent disappointment of Inafune-san’s latest title, it’s hard to remember the joy he used to bring us. The Blue Bomber shaped the way many kids grew up and experienced games while also paving the way for other titles just like it. Mega Man has become a cultural icon with shirts, chibi statues, Mega Buster replicas, and loads more swag. Playing through all of those games was a blast, but like so many people out there… I didn’t really want to play as Mega Man all the time… I wanted to be the shade wearing Proto Man.
Proto Man began life as a stark contrast to the protagonist. You wore blue, he wore red. You had a buster, he had a shield against it. Everything about him seemed to be done in direct competition to the true blue yet he was so damn cool. Eventually Proto Man gave way to the noticeably fancier Zero in X, but it was clear that the influences were still heavily present. Honestly, there haven’t been as many awesome collectibles for the villain (hero sometimes) but this one is amazing.
Mega Man has had some cool wearable items but this Proto Man wearable helmet is shiny and sexy in its own right. The lights seem to bounce off its glossy surface and many a cosplayer should really consider this before their next Proto Man crossplay. I’m not the biggest Mega Man fan but my heart did skip a beat when the little helmet popped up in my RSS feed.
The Proto Man wearable helmet is currently available for preorder on the Capcom store for the price of 160 clams. It’s due out this winter and I’m struggling to not hit that button…
